BAILEY METAL PRODUCTS LIMITED - A family business
In the year 2000, BAILEY Metal Products Limited marked it’s 50th Anniversary as a Canadian owned, family controlled business. The BAILEY experience stretches over a period of history that has seen more change than any other comparable period. Few Canadian family businesses have endured as long, or with such continuing success.
The late Sam Bailey emigrated from Staffordshire, England, as a child and grew up in Preston (Cambridge) Ontario. Following a successful sales career with Eastern Steel Products, Toronto and as Sales Manager of Robertson Irwin Limited of Hamilton, Sam’s inner desire to found his own company, based on his own personal values, led him to establish BAILEY Metal Products Limited, a leader in the steel fabricated building products industry.
Gathering together long time associates such as Ross Bradish, Herm Wells and Fred Ellis, the business commenced operations from the family home using independent cartage for delivery and warehousing. The early success of the business is attributable by Sam Bailey to the years of experience contributed by the initial associate group.
The business prospered and the company moved to premises on Rusholme Road in the Bloor and Dovercourt area of Toronto, with an entrance off a laneway on Hepbourne Street. The next move was to Bentworth Avenue, near Dufferin and Lawrence, in Toronto. The relocation to the current 100,000 square foot plant and offices located in Concord, Ontario occurred in 1989.
Sam Bailey succeeded by relying on a family creed of hard work and determination. He attracted and gave security to dedicated associates who shared his same values. He took pride in the production and sale of quality BAILEY products. Customer satisfaction was a value of prime importance. He was determined that his company act always with fairness in the balanced interests of customers, shareholders, associates, suppliers and the community.
It was devotion to this formula that saw the business grow and spread across Canada, with eventual locations in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montreal.
The BAILEY family and many of BAILEY’s loyal staff are proud of the company that Sam Bailey founded in 1950. The company was initially financed with an investment of $25,000, obtained through a cashed- in life insurance policy and a mortgage on the family home. That investment constituted a considerable sum and substantial risk in the 1950’s.
Values are enduring and we believe that continual adherence to the values that Sam Bailey brought to the business, will bring dynamic growth and success in the future.
